There is another reason to be hopeful that marriage will become law this year – we now have bipartisan support in the (New York) State Senate, with four previous “no” votes coming out for the measure. Governor Andrew Cuomo will shortly introduce legislation in the Senate that would allow loving, committed couples to marry in the Empire State. We thank the Governor for playing such a key role in this fight, but know our work isn’t over. We need to maintain the momentum and keep the volume high so that this bill passes both the Senate and the Assembly. New York’s LGBT families cannot afford to wait any longer.

Today four more senators came out for marriage. Democratic Senators Joseph Addabbo, Shirley Huntley and Carl Kruger and Republican Senator James Alesi have joined the Governor and the record majority of New Yorkers who believe that now is time for all New Yorkers to be able to marry the person they love. Today, loving, committed same-sex couples — and their families and friends — from across this great state have moved one step clogfser towards marriage equality. But we’re not there yet.
We remain committed to building momentum so that marriage equality becomes a reality before the end of this legislative session. After you’ve called your senator, can you call your friends and family and get them to call their senators, too?
You can bet our opposition is throwing everything they can into the fight. We can’t afford to let up for even a moment. Every single supporter of LGBT equality and justice needs to have a part in this. Our victory could depend on it. We are a faith based spiritual movement for marriage equality- we cannot be slient.
