Doubt

Concrete certainty

solidifies

fluid possibility

and stultifies

natural evolution

diminishing

the mystery and wonder

of the Divine.

Doubt creates

the rising question

that leavens the bread,

the fruitful searching

that ferments the wine,

and the endless exploring

that finds the unexpected spark

of light in the darkened tomb.

  1. A truly magnificent poem on Doubt — under the guise of bare-bones simplicity, it touches the essence of what is good about doubt and crystallizes its potential benefits. Does this author have any published poetry anywhere?

  2. Thank you Adela, for your thoughts on DOUBT. I wrote this poem after reading one of Bishop Spong’s weekly Q&A emails. I am often inspired by his insights. The first half of a poem called EVOLVING was completely plagiarized from one of his paragraphs. I sent him the poem and told him if it was ever published he would receive credit for the stolen words. He wished me well and said he hoped it would one day be published. That poem is in my book titled A PLACE WHERE SECRET SHADOWS SHINE and DOUBT is in my other book of poetry called I WONDER… Both books are available on Amazon. Thanks again for your interest in my poetry
