The Met’s Klinghofer: Does Art have a “Contract with Society”?

Distributive justice-compassion, or “restorative” justice, argues that the rain falls on the just and the unjust, and that while the back-story may be compelling or repelling, violence is never the solution. When society’s protective systems “codify right from wrong, separating the holy from the profane,” who will call attention to the injustice that gets embedded in those very codes whose purpose is to protect and defend the safety and security of that society?

The Inn of God’s Forgiveness and Other Hymns for the Progressive Church

So the hymns in this collection are my attempts to express aspects of a positive progressive theology. They are not meant to give a systematic statement of that theology; there are plenty of topics unaddressed here, and there’s plenty of room for a sequel. These hymns are, in the old sense, occasional pieces. They were written for particular occasions in my spiritual journey.

Nature’s Hidden Force

The scientists who authored this book have found through a decade of unique, wholistic research that by integrating new and emergent findings in science with cross-disciplinary research data, what turns up is a new law that
totally overturns the law of entropy. The new facts reveal a “Creative Force” law that continually brings new, different and higher order phenomena into being – the opposite of the negative force of entropy. The new findings reveal that creation not destruction makes up the major force of the universe. The great dividing chasm that the law of entropy created between the sacred and the scientific can now be bridged. We can enjoy a powerful, positive and hopeful worldview based on the joining of powerful concrete scientific facts and on our deepest sacred intuitions.

Teach Us to Pray, with Pastor Dawn- Class #1

Published on Sep 29, 2014
When you no longer believe that God is a cosmic puppeteer, why pray? An exploration of progressive Christian ideas about prayer. In the stories handed down to us from our ancestors, we hear the disciples of Jesus ask, “Lord teach us to pray!” For generations Christians have continued to seek ways to communicate with the ONE we call God. Progressive Christians seek new ways of understanding God and notions of God as a cosmic puppeteer who lives in the sky are being replaced with images which point toward the Reality which lies at the heart of all that is. As we begin to see God as the ONE who lives and breathes in, with, through, and beyond us, our understanding of prayer is evolving. This Keynote presentation includes youtube videos of John Shebly Spong – Honest Prayer Parts I and II, and Fred Plumer on Prayer and Progressive Christianity.
