Time of Peace

From the ‘Sing Young, Sing Joyfully’ collection

1. How can the time of peace come to Earth?

When will all bombs be banned?

How can true justice blossom in mirth?

When will the violence end?

Hidden within your heart and mine

Lie all the answer’s parts.

Peace is a lake vibrant with gold,

Peace starts within our hearts.

Cherish the dream, yes cherish the hope,

Dance in the face of death.

Friends join with me to work for true peace;

Honour each person’s worth.

2. Peace without justice withers and dies;

War will forever be

‘Till all the poor gain power and land,

‘Till all the poor are free.

Look to the poor, look to the child,

Ponder the truths they hold,

Answers of gold nurtured with love,

Wisdom for young and old.

Cherish their dreams, yes cherish their hopes,

Dance with God’s life, not death.

Stand with the poor and stand with the child ;

Honour each person’s worth.

3. Who can sustain this struggle for peace

Lacking true peace within?

Love which embraces those who would kill

Springs from self-love within.

God made us all, God loves us all,

Loves us despite our wrongs.

Come and affirm your worth and mine,

Sing worth in all our songs.

Cherish the dream, yes cherish the hope,

Dance in the face of death.

Friends let us work for justice and peace

Healing the life of Earth.
