About the Author: John Andrew Shuck
Rev. John Shuck has been a Presbyterian minister for 27 years and is currently the pastor of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Beaverton (Portland), Oregon. For seven years, from 2012 through 2018, he produced the weekly radio show/podcast “Progressive Spirit” that was distributed through the Pacifica Radio Network and aired regularly on 20 stations across the country. He currently hosts a live monthly show on KBOO/Portland called “Beloved Community.” He appeared in the documentary “Losing Our Religion” about ministers who no longer believe in a supernatural God or as David Ray Griffin calls it, “Gawd”. In 2018 he made a pilgrimage to Karbala, Iraq for Arbaeen and filmed a documentary about that journey called “For Love of Husayn (as)”. He wishes to create partnerships between Shia scholars and Progressive Christians to dismantle imperial narratives based on Islamophobia. He is a member of Religious Leaders for 9/11 Truth and is an avid anti-war activist. He is a graduate of the University of Washington and Princeton Theological Seminary.
