ProgressiveChristianity.org is nothing without YOU – everything that we do is for you. That is our purpose, providing resources for people like you who are exploring their spirituality from a progressive Christian perspective.

We are also a non-profit working within the constraints of a relatively tight budget;  without your support, we truly could literally be little to nothing. So, here is the ask: if you are in a position to donate any amount, please consider doing so. Even better, consider making your gift a sustaining gift (choose Recurring Donation); it helps provide a much needed, stable, financial foundation from which we can continue to grow into the future.

Civil Rights Pilgrimage – A 9 Day Journey of Growth and Discovery

We are excited to offer our first domestic pilgrimage: a journey across the South, from Atlanta to Memphis, where we will learn more about the Civil Rights Movement, visit the sacred sites where lives were lost and freedom won, and see the work that must still be done so that all people are guaranteed the rights and privileges of citizenship.

Getting There and Home Again: This pilgrimage begins in Atlanta and ends in Memphis. For those traveling by air, we recommend flying in to Atlanta and out of Memphis. The tour starts at the hotel, so you are responsible for arriving there by the designated time. We’re happy to help coordinate an airport transfer, if needed. Progressive Pilgrimage is also happy to assist with booking your flights, if desired. Please do not book non-refundable airfare until you have received confirmation that this tour has reached the minimum number of 12 participants. We will notify all participants as soon as that threshold is reached.

For those arriving in Atlanta by car, parking will be available at our Atlanta hotel (for a fee) for the duration of the pilgrimage. The bus will provide a return transfer from Memphis to Atlanta at the conclusion of the pilgrimage. On the registration form, make sure to indicate if you will be arriving in Atlanta in your own vehicle or if you will be flying in.

COVID Precautions: With CDC recommendations and the situation changing daily, visit the CDC website for the most up-to-date domestic travel recommendations. Currently the CDC says it is safe for vaccinated people to travel domestically without testing or quarantine, . We strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Pilgrims will be coming from across the country to join this group and being vaccinated is the best way to ensure everyone on the trip and everyone we meet stays safe. We will travel on a 56 passenger coach, but are limiting this trip to only 26 people, so we can maintain a 50% occupancy on the bus. We expect some indoor locations to require masks.
