Still Time to Apply to an incredible program offered by our friends at The Chaplaincy Institute - An Interfaith Seminary and Community!

2017-18 Interfaith Spiritual Direction Certificate Program

Application deadline has been extended to August 7!
Course Schedule is August 2017 - March 2018

This program is designed for those who feel called to a private practice in personal, one-on-one spiritual direction, and who anticipate working with clients from a variety of faith traditions. It is also well-suited for those who intend to do group spiritual direction, and for those of other helping professions who want to add a spiritual guidance perspective to their current work (such as psychotherapists, social workers, health practitioners, ministers and chaplains). Upon successful completion of the program, participants are qualified to provide spiritual direction in the context of their choosing.

We are very excited that a new website will be coming out and we will be calling it ProgressingSpirit.com. This new site will become a hybrid of Bishop Spong's audience and a new and growing base of people who are looking for a higher end resource like we are offering. Free blogs are plentiful. But this resource will be worth a few dollars a year to subscribers to experience deeper insights from proven leaders on topics of theology, spirituality, and the news. Stay tuned! ...

Sermon: Part 1: A Spiritual Reformation (and this time we really mean it)
By: Roger Lee Ray, D.Min.
pastor, The Emerging Church

Religions are like languages reflecting the most sincere and urgent desires of ancient cultures to articulate and teach their highest values and beliefs. As languages, one is not better than another. We can learn certain insights from all of them but we really must question their truth claims in light of modern culture and knowledge. We would not prefer a 2000 year old science text book to a 2 year old science text book. Being old does not mean better and, in fact, all major world religions are in dire need of massive reformation in order to remain relevant in the future. Misogyny, homophobia, adorations of rulers and deference to wealth and power, along with racism, and environmental exploitation need to be consigned to our religious past.
