At the Table of the Holy: A Hymn of Inclusion
Queer Sacred Music Collection
From the Queer Sacred Music Collection
of Amanda Udis-Kessler
This hymn text revisits Matthew 15:21-28 in light of its larger message that all of us, even Jesus, are tempted to offer too restrictive a welcome to Love’s Domain (or what Jesus called the Kingdom of Heaven). The text uses Jesus as a model for our own opportunities to learn, grow, rethink, and change direction (repent) to become more open-hearted, generous, and hospitable – especially to those we think do not belong. It is set to the traditional music of Beach Spring.
