- The Bible’s many stories
Show faith that has evolved;
As new beliefs were birthing
The old became dissolved.
Their prehistoric views changed
From past astronomy
When Earth as flat and central
Was how things seemed to be.
- Instead of trusting God’s plan
We err through lusting pow’r
To master all of Earth’s life
With wealth our Babel tow’r.
The Bible truths can birth change
Like Abra’m sacrificed
A ram and not his offspring *
To pay the final price.
- Each tribe had their own Godhead
Whose role it was to reign
And aid the crops and people
To reproduce their strain.
These gods were gods of conflict
Who took sides in each war
But unlike Christ brought no peace
For people’s inner core.
- These narratives were shaped by
Pre-scientific thought
Emerging from their passion
For truth that they had sought.
Through tracing all the process
Their wisdom can display
Each person can be gifted
With strength to live Christ’s Way.
- When Spirit dwells in process
Through all that now moves on
Our fire becomes a furnace
As love embraces song.
We then will cease to urge God
To do what we can do
But through love’s pow’r for changing
Promote the just and true.
* Genesis 22/1-13

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
William (Bill) Livingstone Wallace is a retired New Zealand Methodist Minister and one of our most prolific contributors. Bill says that his work springs from communicating with the fire in his gut and his observation of both the internal and external aspects of the Cosmos. Since an early age, he has been both sympathetic to and critical of the church, announcing at the age of 13 his belief in evolution. In his youth, he struggled with the disconnection between art and spirituality in his own and other denominations and with the way in which all of the liturgies prior to the sermon were regarded as preliminaries and longer sermons were viewed as superior to more concise ones.
He holds a B.A. in philosophy and a Dip. Ed. and is the author of nine published collections of his hymns as well as other resources on our website. His aim is to help people be empowered by the divine within them and the Cosmos and to work to overthrow the forces of personal and institutional greed which destroy both the ecosystem and human society.
