Trump & The MAGA Movement as Anti-Christ

A Handbook for the 2024 Election

Matthew Fox Releases Provocative New Book: Matthew Fox, a distinguished spiritual theologian and author of over 40 books, including Original Blessing and The Coming of the Cosmic Christ, announces the release of his latest and most controversial work yet: Trump & The MAGA Movement as Anti-Christ: A Handbook for the 2024 Election.

While visiting a medieval cathedral in Orvieto, Italy, this summer, Fox stood before an iconic fresco by Luca Signorelli entitled “The Antichrist.”  On seeing it, his response was, “It feels like Donald Trump.”  Fox relates the story of how Sigmund Freud was so taken by this fresco that he returned to study it three times. He invokes Carl Jung, who warned that the archetype of the antichrist must have light shed on it, or otherwise, it can devour both individual souls and society itself.  He reproduces Luca’s fresco and a painting by Hildegard of Bingen in the 12th century of the antichrist and reminds us how Martin Luther invoked the antichrist in his religious revolution in the 16th century.  Other reformers, including John Calvin, Huldrych Zwingli, and John Knox, followed suit.

Fox has written two previous books on Evil, one of which was called a “masterpiece and a breathtaking analysis” by renowned theologian Diarmuid O’Murchu and the other “prophetic” by New Testament scholar Bruce Chilton.  Fox considers the archetype of the antichrist to be an archetype for evil and recognizes a lot of evil in Project 2025 and in all those involved in climate change denial, the compulsion to control women’s bodies, and the effort to kill democracy.

Fox names 18 elements of the MAGA movement that carry antichrist energy, including the Big Lie, Project 2025, SCOTUS, and the blasphemy of Trump’s hocking a Bible that includes the Pledge of Allegiance.  “This archetype reminds us of the dark side of humanity and politics,” says Fox.  “I have seized it from the far right and applied it to the politics of our day.”

Citing Democratic activists who are saying, ‘we need to go on the offensive” Fox says: “This book surely goes on the offensive and may offend some.  But naming evil is necessary in order to move beyond it.” Trump & The MAGA Movement as Anti-Christ is not just a theological exploration but a call to action for all those concerned about the future.  At the Democratic National Convention, Michelle Obama urged us all to ‘DO SOMETHING!!’  Reading and sharing this book is something worth doing.”

Fox proposes that MAGA really stands for “Making America Grotesque Again,” as in the time of slavery and Jim Crow, genocide toward Native Americans, and more.

Might Fox be correct? That the archetype born of apocalyptic literature of the Bible and so electrifying to believers in the 12th and 16th-century Reformations is a sign of the times for our current apocalyptic moment, including the consequential election of 2024?

This Handbook for the 2024 Election is a must-read for all who care about the future of the planet and humanity.  It is both a scholarly work and a timely call to action, appealing to a wide audience concerned with spirituality, politics, and eco and social justice.

From the Foreword: “If there was ever a time, a moment, for examining the archetype of the Antichrist, it is now… Read this book with an open mind. Good and evil are real forces in our world.” – Caroline Myss, author of Anatomy of the Spirit and Conversations with the Divine.

From the Afterword: “Matthew Fox is our living elder statesman of the authentic Christian mystical tradition. This book may be the most important of all the great and pioneering works he has graced us with over five decades as our greatest living Christian theologian.” – Andrew Harvey, author of The Son of Man: The Mystical Path to Christ and Love Is Everything: A Year With Hadewijch of Antwerp.

From a Grandmother: “Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down.  The energy of the book is lingering.  Realizing that I have felt this heaviness looming and didn’t know how to name it.  You have named it, and now I know what we are facing. Very quick and concise read.  Easy to follow and absorb.  Startling to see it all woven together!  This book and its author, I believe, will go down in history as the person and vehicle that dared to call out evil by its true name into the light of truth and justice.  My prayer is that the Holy Spirit guides it into the hands of all those with eyes to see and ears to hear.”
