Baptism
Just as progressive Christians have found new symbolism for the bread and wine of communion, so too we look for new words with which to express the ancient ritual of baptism. At its heart, baptism is a ritual of recognition and of belonging, to one’s community and to God. Even though the doctrines of the past no longer serve us in their original forms, the human needs they were designed to satisfy still exist. “You are beloved… you belong… we will walk with you.”
