Of all the symbols we encounter during Lent, none is more recognizable than the cross. Even as it is claimed by all Christians, the meanings that are attached to it are many. For some, it means salvation; for others, the power of unconditional love; for still others, the meeting of the heavenly dimension (vertical) with the earthly (horizontal).
