The Nature of Evil

By Published On: April 17, 20240 Comments on The Nature of Evil

Christianity is straining to release its true message: God loves everyone, no matter what, for eternity.

Our personal and collective destiny is to love everyone as deeply as God does.

If you meditate on these truths and their implications, you will be transformed.

If evil can be categorized, it may look something like this:

Natural world (environmental): floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, illness, meteors, solar flares, wildfires, insect infestations, predators, drought, etc.

Human behavior: war, anger, murder, assault, bullying, prejudice, etc.

History tells us that some previous civilizations believed natural phenomena were caused by a God, good or bad. Some people still attribute natural disasters to an act of God, believing that some human behavior upsets God, who responds with anger. Science has determined the cause for almost all known natural evils.

Science is learning more and more about the human brain and mind. Will there come a day when all human behavior can be understood as clearly as natural disasters? Will these behaviors still be considered evil? For those who believe an external power influences people’s behavior, will scientific proof change their belief?

When you consider the simple categorization above, you may be able to categorize evil as nothing more than the biology and physics of life. Does this mean the devil and demons are a folktale derived to explain the unexplained and why bad things happen to good people?

Is it really good against bad, or is there only God (love) and life?

Former lifelong Catholic looking forward to a transformed Christianity, one focused on the evolutionary journey to the image and likeness of God, not damnation and the need for salvation. Our life’s purpose is to recognize the evolutionary journey and live our lives so we advance humankind along the evolutionary path. Life is a very short opportunity to expand God’s love.
