Come Raise Your Voice and Join with Me Now
Arr.Louis Burgeois 1510-1561
1. Come raise your voice and join with me now
In this great Eucharistic feast.
Come celebrate this mystic art form
That fills my heart with spirit’s yeast.
For wonder that this sacred feast holds
Embraces all that is or was
As all can still find in its myst’ry
The swirling mists beyond “because”.
2, As bread and wine dispense their myst’ry
We celebrate the Cosmic birth,
Of Earth that came from gas and dust clouds
And humans that arose from earth.
For evolution’s tales unfolding
We now raise thankful psalms of praise
At the amazing range of God’s works
That set inquiring minds ablaze.
3. Recalling all our human story
Meanness and nurture dwelling here
In wondrous but beguiling fashion
Good that ignores all future care,
God’s justice undermined by hatred,
Great beauty shaped by human greed,
Lust of oppression to control all
And poverty we fail to heed.
4. We celebrate all of this wonder
With awe that still is tinged with pain
Stirred in our heart and in our mem’ry
Till Christ’s Beatitudes shall reign;
For the cup we raise should be ourselves
We offer for all life on Earth;
Through gifting we shall now gain wholeness
As our compassion brings new birth.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
William (Bill) Livingstone Wallace is a retired New Zealand Methodist Minister and one of our most prolific contributors. Bill says that his work springs from communicating with the fire in his gut and his observation of both the internal and external aspects of the Cosmos. Since an early age, he has been both sympathetic to and critical of the church, announcing at the age of 13 his belief in evolution. In his youth, he struggled with the disconnection between art and spirituality in his own and other denominations and with the way in which all of the liturgies prior to the sermon were regarded as preliminaries and longer sermons were viewed as superior to more concise ones.
He holds a B.A. in philosophy and a Dip. Ed. and is the author of nine published collections of his hymns as well as other resources on our website. His aim is to help people be empowered by the divine within them and the Cosmos and to work to overthrow the forces of personal and institutional greed which destroy both the ecosystem and human society.
