Future Facing Faith: From Overwhelm to Insight

Life is hard. If I want to relate to life’s spiritual dimension in a way that embraces—rather than evades—the human experience, generative spirituality unfolds for me along three axes:

Generative spirituality is rooted in the past. Those who have gone before: our ancestral legacy, faith lineage, families of origin.

Generative spirituality has a robust relationship with the present moment. Who am I if I’m radically present, being here now?

And… perhaps the least-understood element… generative spirituality anchors faith forward into tomorrow.

But ‘tomorrow’ can be tough, can’t it?

* In the age of information, making informed decisions is harder than ever.
* In the age of connectivity, people feel more disconnected and alone.

Why in the world?

What gives?

How can all these tools meant to help us do the exact opposite, leaving us more confused and divided than ever?

When I was in college in undergrad days, I sought to live differently in my relationship to past, present, and future. Along with a circle of friends, we sought to live in a radically decentralized, contemplatively-oriented, neighborhood-based faith community—first while we were in school in Georgia, then in North Carolina as we graduated.

The experiment lasted about five years, all told. But the insights gained and friendships forged have lasted a lifetime.

One of those connections was with Jared Nichols—a quick-witted, self-deprecating, fast-talking, and beardly guy. When we first met on campus, we had animated conversations about obscure indie music, indigenous Chinese Christian resistance movements against colonialist missionaries, and what makes for the good life. Needless to say, with such obscure converging interests, we became fast friends.

Fast-forward a few years, when we were living in intentional community in North Carolina. I encounter Jay Gary, an accomplished futurist whose strangely-named discipline (also called ‘Strategic Foresight’) helps nonprofits, businesses, denominations and entire governments re-orient their relationship to the future, from one of fear and scarcity to abundance and play.

I was intrigued, and began graduate studies under Jay. I encouraged Jared to do the same, and he did. I never completed that grad work—the birth of my first daughter was a blessed schedule-scrambler in my life—but Jared did. And he’s since gone on to become one of our continent’s most sought-after futurists in his own right.

Our college house church, circa 2003. Jared’s the guy on the upper-right, in an unusually clean-shaven moment. I’m the silly guy in the upper-left. We had fun. : )

We live in different cities now, but recently Jared and I were catching up. We were discussing how the frenetic pace of technological innovation and social media seems to be making us less rested, more combative, and increasingly dissatisfied with life.

But then, Jared said something intriguing.

“It’s not technology or information that’s causing the problem. It’s our relationship to it that’s the problem.”

I thought about it a moment, and had to agree. So I asked, “How do we solve this problem?”

Is this a question you’re also asking? If so, I’m excited to share something with you.

Jared just put the finishing touches on his new video series, From Overwhelm to Insight, where he not only answers this question in the abstract, he shows you how to overcome this challenge today!

Here’s the best part…

It’s yours free!

Just go right here to get access.

Here’s the thing…

This is real training that you can apply immediately.

How do I know this?

Because I’ve gone through it myself. It’s a gem. I think you’ll like it, too.

It’s short, actionable, and designed to give you quick ‘wins’ right away!

Like I said, it’s yours free.

For how long? I’m not sure. But…

It’s free right now, so click here to get access to the series while it’s still available!

From Overwhelm to Insight: How to Create the Future YOU Want to See!

Even though my degree in the field is ‘stalled,’ I really care about this stuff. I feel grateful that Jared is translating high-level organizational futures consulting into something that all of us can put into practice.

Here’s what you can learn in this free series, should you accept this mission:

The number one thing that keeps most people from taking control of the direction of their lives and work. And

* How you can begin overcoming that challenge today!
* How to spot early signs of change and disruption, and fall in love with them rather than fight them. (This is a game-changer.)
* How faith leaders and change-agents like you are applying these skills to create the kind of future they want to see!

I’ve always thought that futures training, applied to individuals as well as communities, can change the world. Thanks to Jared, now it can.

But not unless you take action—not just for yourself, but for all those you care about.

Are you ready?

Then let’s dive in, together, to From Overwhelm to Insight: How to Create the Future YOU Want to See!

In gratitude,

Mike Morrell
