Two New Musical Releases

A high-quality song download is FREE to the first 200 people.

“Breathe Now” is a song with lyrics inspired by Martin Luther King, his dream, and his fight against racism. It takes a progressive Christian perspective and uses a familiar hymn tune set in a contemporary music style. Listen to the song, read the accompanying commentary, and you may find yourself singing along with the refrain, “Breathe now, the deep and swirling source of life.”

“Whips” is a song remembering the history of slavery, with the aim to increase awareness of issues regarding racism and oppression today. It connects the Christian symbol of breaking bread with a remembrance of the history of slavery and a concern for social justice. Listen to the song, read the accompanying commentary, and be moved by the grief expressed in the refrain, “A wailing mother / a baby stolen.”

FREE BONUS: The first 200 people can get a high-quality song download for free.  To obtain your free download, find and click the “download” button on the song player, then enter “0” when asked to, “name your price.”

Illustrated Lecture Series

The History of Psychology, Racism and the United States is a video lecture series (with numerous visual illustrations) originally developed as part of a graduate-level course for clinical psychology students. For a limited time, this series is available free of charge. The 18-part series combines the history of psychology, racism, and the United States, and tells the story of how psychology was born into an academic world that was steeped in racism, and how, initially, psychology promoted racist ideas. Along the way, this story also delves into the history of medicine, science, and culture, and it highlights ways that power systems have served to benefit some and oppress many. This series is ideal for anyone interested in psychology, and it provides the type of history that we need to know if we want to gain a full understanding of the issues people face today in our culturally diverse society.
