The Jesus You Didn’t Know You Could Believe In

The Jesus You Didn’t Know You Could Believe In
By Jeffrey E. Frantz
As Christianity continues in search of a reformation adequate to our modern experience, it is amazing–through it all–how we continue to be fascinated by Jesus. Indeed, it is hard not to be. The life he lived, overflowing with compassion and courage, continues to draw us in. Who was he, what was he about, and what commitments does he call us to? We want to know.
Review
The first question to ask regarding Dr. Jeffrey Frantz’s new book, The Jesus You Didn’t Know You Could Believe In, is why another book on Jesus. Here’s why: Dr. Frantz, a pastor for forty years, believes the Christian faith must grow, evolve toward new understandings of its central doctrines, or it will die. With this in mind, he creates a Jesus adequate to our modern experience. This Jesus is fully human-a man whose life overflowed with love and compassion, courage, charisma, and a keen intelligence.
Frantz posits that the resurrection makes no sense unless we see Jesus as fully human. His argument is quite an achievement. Frantz writes as a pastor rather than a scholar which makes the book more readable, but don’t be fooled. The book is filled with original insights. For Christians seeking new answers, it’s a must read. ~ Dr. Rick Herrick, author of A Second Chance and A Man Called Jesus
