Reviews
“Tom Huening’s newest book opened my eyes to another aspect of Jefferson’s genius: his capacity to capture what he felt were the truly important aspects of Jesus’s messages. Huening’s crisp writing in the first three parts of the book set the stage with an overview of the Bible’s evolution, the outline of Jefferson’s life, and a description of how Jefferson created his version of the Bible. These parts read like a great adventure story that engaged me on every page. Huening’s Part 4 offers comments on sections of Jefferson’s Bible, which expanded my awareness of the context behind the Bible’s parts that Jefferson felt were important. Part 5’s overview of responses to Jefferson’s work reveals how difficult it is for some to even consider alternate perspectives about their belief systems. Huening’s Part 6 conclusion clarifies Jefferson’s conviction that religion and politics need to remain separate and his view about the value in a diversity of beliefs that should be openly appreciated and discussed.” -Warren Blank

“Should America’s government be tied to specific religious identities, or should its people be free to practice, or not, whatever faith they may believe and accept? Thomas Jefferson’s Bible – Religious Freedom in America is a timely book by Thomas Huening that explores, with historical viewpoints, Jefferson’s version of the Bible and Jesus’s teachings. This informative and engaging book is a must-read whether you are inclined to believe that America is a Christian-founded nation to be ruled based on religious beliefs or is a secular nation.” -Juan Raigoza
