Time is running out in 2017 to help ProgressiveChristianity.org. We are sustained by donations averaging about $25. If everyone reading this right now gave just $15, we would reach our goal of $60,000 by the end of the year. We are a small non-profit with a very small staff trying to do big things in this world. We keep our site free of external ads so that you can trust and rely on what you see and experience here.

Most of what we offer, we offer for free. And that includes thousands of articles, books, liturgy and community resources, music, reviews, curricula, and a thriving and growing international network of people like you searching and building community, all with a focus on spiritual practice, sacred community and positive social transformation.

ProgressiveChristianity.org is a global portal for hundreds of dedicated volunteer authors that simply want the movement to grow. For the same amount one spends on coffee each month, you can help sustain an organization dedicated to spreading the word of a compassionate and informed Christianity. Please help us keep ProgressiveChristianity.org online and growing. Thank you.

A Joyful Path, Year Two – Unit 5: Search for Understanding

What Is A Joyful Path Year Two Like?

In A Joyful Path, Year Two, we focus on some of the main tenets of Progressive Christianity and Spirituality, giving our children the foundation they need to walk the path of Jesus in today’s world.  It has stories and affirmations written to help children clarify their own personal beliefs while staying open to the wisdom of other traditions.

Year Two will be similar to Year One, in that it will have 37 lessons, full color original artwork, a contemplative and introductory section for the teacher in each lesson, 37 original stories, incredible heart warming, feeling based activities, and tips to bring music and nature into each lesson.

Year Two will have be slightly different from Year One, in that we are going to focus more directly on our eight points, breaking them down into 3-5 lessons per point.

Unit 5 Lessons are:

• Lesson 1: Asking Questions
• Lesson 2: Bible
• Lesson 3: The Parable of Jesus

Each Year Two Lesson Includes:

Teacher Introduction/Getting to the Heart of the Lesson
Teacher Reflection
Spiritual Affirmation with full color Art
Original Story, and Activities, Bible Verses,
Wisdom Quotes

Getting to the Heart of the Lesson

This point, recognizing that we open ourselves to a constant flow of grace as we search for understanding, is inextricably linked to the eighth point in Progressive Christian beliefs: that we are committed to a lifelong path of learning. For as soon as we think we have arrived at the end point of understanding, we close ourselves to that flow of grace. Wisdom teachers of all paths describe gradual awakening or a progressive realization of understanding, marked by moments of clear inner revelation; but if we keep searching, there are ever-new octaves of clarity.

Grace comes when we offer ourselves into the unknown, with a sincere desire to learn. Asking questions is another way of saying we invite understanding and the door is open. Answers may come in a form we don’t foresee, or through people we didn’t expect, or with circumstances we wouldn’t choose, but they will come.

Children usually need no encouragement to ask questions, but as they grow the world often imposes restrictions about what are the right questions to ask.

Have fun in this lesson asking questions and sharing answers and keeping the door wide open for grace to flow through.
